Does a Q-Jet 7041212 Pre-December 1970 build date for and automatic really exist???

    Hello again everyone.
I have been searching for the long lost carb for my 1971 with automatic that has an engine assembly date of December 2, 1970.
Does anyone else have an automatic 1971 that was assembled in 1970 with the correct date code carburetor???
I just want to know if one really exist or not. The code per the Quadrajet spec sheet says that it would be a 7041212 with a build date ending 0.

    Thanks
    Stan

Is that our friend Chicago Corvette rebranded? Could the stamps just possibly be done recently?

It may be but when I called them they said they couldn't locate the 2380, so that is why I am hoping their is a member hear that has a car built next to mine with the correct carb. I have yet to see a 7041212 built before January 1971.

Yes they exist. They are on 1971 cars built in 1970.

Years ago I owned a 1973 L82 with a December 1972 assembly date. It had a 7043213 Q-Jet dated November (I don't recall the specific date stamp). This isn't a 1971 car but an example showing the 4th digit of the PN is the MY which is different than the year produced.

Thanks Mark, that does give me hope. I'm still hoping there is another member with a 71 vert built before 71 out there.

This model of Quadrajet was only used on 1971 Corvettes with 270hp/automatic. It doesn't matter if it was coupe or convertible.
Narrow it down to 1970-dated carbs, and it's likely a couple of thousand originally installed. Compare that to several thousand (tens of?) for common Chevrolet engines.

It took me 5 years to find a correctly dated 7041213 for my 1971. I'm not surprised you're not finding one right away.
Trying to find a 544 alternator for a 1971 is just as difficult.

James Groome's ebay link is where I recently picked up a Q-Jet 7041212 w/date code of 2380 for my 71 w/a build date of Sep 8, 1970. The ebay link/site is currently showing that carb w/date code of 2210 which is Aug 9th. Just got it on a few months ago and it's running great! Check the ebay link.

Yes Stan they do exist. I have a 1971 corvette automatic coupe built in December 1970. The 7041212 DL carburetor is very hard to find. I have 2 of them. I found one on EBay. All I can say is to keep on looking. You may get lucky and find one.

                              Stan,
Have you considered that it could properly use a Carter-built late 1970 Quadrajet? That would be an additional option to consider and look for. Perhaps you have, but I didn't see any indication of that in the thread.
