Adam, welcome to the hobby! Are you familiar with the stamp pad? It is the area directly in front of the passenger side head on the cylinder block where data such as engine build date, configuration suffix, and original installation VIN would be located. This, along with the casting date, could give indication as to origins of engine. Also note, those engines are still being produced today in various forms and sold as crate engines. You could have a much newer engine than you think.
