Re: New Frame - Vette Products of Michigan
Gary,
The frame looks great. I will be curious as to how well everything fits and lines up.
Just wondering if you plan to stamp the frame with the VIN in the correct locations? Just for discussion purposes when and if you would sell the car in the future would this be something you would want to disclose to the perspective buyer? Why I ask is because my ‘64 convertible needs a new frame. I know the cost of NOT replacing it would be a negative selling point. My car has already earned Top Flight awards at all levels. The frame had some repairs, but I really feel it needs to be replaced.
Keep us posted on your progress.
Regards,

A friend of mine got one of their frames for his 63. The quality was very good everything lined up perfectly. He had to locate and drill holes for the fuel line and brake lines using his old frame as a template. The final result was excellent.- Top

Re: New Frame - Vette Products of Michigan
I used a Vette Products for my for my L79 '66 roadster in 2019 and every single hole lined up perfectly. Brake and fuel line clips are up to the new owner... My original frame was a complete utter twisted mess with welded "fixes" that made it unusable. Yes, there was a wait, but as with you, it was completely worth it!

Do you plan to coat the outside of it?
My 2 cents...Highly recommend coating the inside of the frame with a rust inhibitor paint or powder. You could use fluid film but that will run out for a while. Eastwood makes a inner frame rail coating/paint but that wouldn't look stock. Id do something verses bare steel. Maybe powder coat it inside & out. Or call Vette Products and ask for recommendations?
Another tip is to verify its straight & square. You never know. If its off enough it could become a hassle. Better off verifying it now. Much easier to tweak it now.

Re: New Frame - Vette Products of Michigan
When I restored a '67 frame a few years ago I used the green Eastwood internal coating, applied using a Eastwood spray gun with a special circular wand. Then I sprayed over it inside with black Dupont DP90 using the same gun as I didn't want the green visible through the holes.
The biggest hassle was taping up about 200 holes so the coatings stayed inside.
Then I DP90'd the outside of the frame then several coats of semi-gloss 2-part black.
The VPM frame I used on a '66..... Powder coated it. $500 at a local shop. They sandblasted it before powder coating to give it teeth. Overall less cost and less time.

Re: New Frame - Vette Products of Michigan
Richard,
Did you tape up the 200 holes from the inside to keep the DP90 from overspray on the green on the inside?
And I'm sure the place that did the powdercoat sand blasted on the inside and then powdercoated inside also!
Hard to duplicate the factory frame painting without a huge vat and several hundred gallons of frame paint!
But we all do the best we can and then let the judges do their thing!

When I sprayed the outside I had it upside down and loaded the sucker up with gooey black paint so it dripped like a crying old hound dog. lol- Top

Re: New Frame - Vette Products of Michigan
My '66 L72 Coupe has a VPM frame installed back in about 2005 if I remember correctly by Werner M. in Michigan. It still looks great and the car is solid as a rock... Has anyone had a car judged with a VPM frame and if so were there any deductions on originality? If so why.Nick Kammer, #33307

Re: New Frame - Vette Products of Michigan
hi all, can some one please pm me with a phone number to the frame company. i have a 64 coupe i have just started a ground up restoration on. i have the car up on jack stands. the front stands are under the lower control arms. the rear stands are under the frame in front of the rear wheels at the kick up. it has been this way for 5-6 months. the other night i noticed the right rear of the car had dropped. the door was not aligned. i jacked the car up by the rear center section and straightened it out. i have not had time to really get under there to look as i have been busy. i was figuring on a frame any how as when i found the car it was in a back yard under a tarp for 30 plus years. some one please forward the number to me. thank you. mike.Attached Files- Top

If ordering a frame you will need to put a deposit up front. No credit cards. The balance in full when shipped. Be prepared for a shock on shipping. They are probably 4 months out.- Top
