I used 3M spray can and it is OK. Smoother than original but if sprayed from far enough away it passed.

This is probably it. I have also used this.......requires a compressor and their application gun (their gun is a bit pricey, but cheaper guns are available).

I used the 3M Rocker Schutz this past summer when I restored my 67 roadster and it works very well. I bought one of the generic guns and it performed well. One can goes a long way, I bought two and didn’t use all of one.

          Jimmy, Larry, and Tom,

So you used the 3M one quart can with the spray gun. I found the 3M undercoating in the quart cans and the Astro spray gun on Amazon.

What range of air pressure do you recommend for the application?

Has anyone use a sea sponge to daub the undercoating after it is applied to make the surface texture look more authentic?

          Thanks,

          James

It has been a long time since I used this, but I THINK about 30-40 psig at the gun. You will need to do a test panel to fine tune application and pressure.

Re: C2 Wheel Well Undercoating...what to use???

Nothing I have found on the commercial market builds or really looks like the original products... SOOO

I went mad scientist a couple of years ago and devised something which builds like the original and looks pretty darned good in the opinion of those of us who are insane. (it is a mix of body shop supply store evercoat undercoating with tar roofing patch from a gallon can FROM LOWES mixed in to thicken it and make it build)

These were some test sprays - I am getting ready to do the wheel arches on a 69 Camaro Pace Car so I will get some better photos.
I use a gun which looks like a textured ceiling sprayer without the hopper.
Less pressure builds better with a closer to factory texture - 25-30# works best for me.
The flatter finer textured spots below are at 50-60#

FWIW the consitency prior to spraying is about like oatmeal - it won't quite level itself out.- NOT AS RUNNY AS MOST GRITS~

if I remember correctly I used 40 PSI and did a few spray outs to get the hang of it. Sprayed nicely but you will got some overspray so make sure you bag out areas not desired with plastic or similar.

I bag the entire car and tape the wheel openings off...

One more vote for the 3M 8864 product. Used a $10 spray gun (Astro Pneumatic) at 30psi and with a bit of practice can get a good build original looking texture. It can be a mess though.
