Re: LED headlights
Hi Mike,
Just recently I upgraded the stock headlights on my '67 coupe with LED's. I used glass H4 halogen housing from OCTANE LIGHTING, and Auxito LED bulbs for all 4 lamp positions. The difference in lighting is remarkable - I finally feel safe driving my Corvette at night!
I described this upgrade in some detail here:https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...o-my-67-a.html
The only remaining issue with the swap is I get a momentary headlight 'flicker' each time I put a load on the electrical system (e.g. brakes, turn signal, power window). This dims the LED headlamps but only a small bit, for a very short time, so is in no way unsafe.
In an effort to stop the flicker, I swapped in a solid state voltage regulator (only $30). However this did not solve the problem.
Others have suggested relays, or capacitors. But that'll involve more money and effort, without assurance that it will eliminate the flicker. Relays doesn't make sense to me as LED's draw only half the power of the old incandescent T-3 lamps.
I've been trying without success to contact Auxito, the maker of the LED bulbs (made in China), but they never answer the phone number that's posted on the website.
In all the LED upgrade I was super worthwhile, and only cost $130 all in, so I'd highly recommend it.
There are lots of options as far as LED bulb suppliers and lamp housing suppliers, so let us know what you chose and how it turns out.- Top
