    Midyear Shocks

Looking for some input on shocks for my 66 BB coupe that's not a driver. I'm thinking the Delco's to keep car in the original family. Maybe the repros? However, they are a bit pricey. What you think? Appreciate any input.

    Hi Paul,

The repros the main guy sells are very nice from what I can tell. Quite pricey but available for your resto versus lengthily searching for a real pre-dated set. Since I'm still collecting parts for my retirement '66 L36 restoration I finally got lucky and found all four corners from the same seller.

My car had standard shocks that were replaced years ago. I thought it would be reasonably easy to find the standard shocks versus the F41 style but it's the other way around. Lots of F41 shocks out there but standard ones are a little harder to find. But they're out there. I always choose the real thing over repro. Very happy to have this real set of low mile 3186906 and 3186907 shocks. They should clean up nice. Hope they ride as good as they look. They feel good when run through by hand.

You didn't mention if your big block came with F41 or not? I'm basing that mine did not since my front sway bar measures 7/8" inch in diameter and appears to be original to the car. F41 front stabilizer bars were all 15/16" inches in diameter according to what I just read by Noland Adams.

    Happy hunting! Mike

I have always liked the oil-charged/damping shocks vs gas charged & sticking with a Delco product. Can be difficult to find, but if you check a well known auction site for Delco Pleasurizer P2004/front & P2060/rear ('heavy duty') they show up occasionally & are green in color. There was also a "Big D" Delco line, red in color, 500-80 & 500-81 for Corvette. The 2004 & 2060 have larger tube/dust cover OD than OEM. Rear 2060 requires changing lower shock mount forging to the 'HD' style for clearance.

        Mike and Jeff.
Well, that’s a lot of good info for sure. Wasn’t aware of it. I really appreciate it. I was under the Vette this morning installing the correct AC/Delco oil canister, adapter and element. I removed the spin on filter and it’s adapter first of course. Looks great ...even though its under the car. I did measure the measure the front stabilizer bar and it is 7/8. So therefor no F41 option. I also discovered shocks now Installed are Monroe Sensa Tracs. Rubber bushing on all four are in like new condition. Cleaned up rears and removed fronts and did same. So I have time to look for originals if I decide to.
Jeff, I don’t believe I’ll need new shock mounts, although yours are show quality. Ive remove them on a prior Vette so I know they can be a real hassle to get off. Thanks for all the great pics.
