66 wire harness, plastic push-in straps; deviation from the 66 AIM

In a 2006 posting, Joe Lucia described the 3830786 strap as follows:

The first Corvette use for it that I can find is 1966 for big block radiator overflow hose retainers and it continued to be so-used through 1968. It also appears that there may have been some other Corvette use about 1977 or 1978 for some electrical application, but I can't confirm that.

The GM #3830786 was originally designed for and released for use in air conditioning hose strap retention applications. However, I can't find any Corvette use for it in that application. I would not rule out that it was so-used, though.

Why do you think these are "...the incorrect..." straps?

Don't change an original car to make it match a Judging Guide - you're just tossing away history. This is how revisions/corrections to our JG happen - new information.

As to deviation from an A.I.M., John Hinckley's article is worth a read - particularly "Running Changes" section.

As we know if the line was running low of straps in the AIM they couldn't stop, so they used anything in stock. More cars would help prove it but I'd stay with what was there on yours too.
