    E.J.,

At this point I think no official GM application used fasteners at the locations of my holes, except an owner-inspired addition, as Richard and Frank suggest.

Gary- I think we are talking about two different things-the mystery holes, and the two "dimples" just above the upper A-Frame dust shields. I was simply curious as to what application would have utilized the two "dimpled " locations?
If you look VERY closely at pg. 164, picture C3-2 in the 1966 6th ed. TIMJG-you can see the same two "dimples" just above the dust shields, just as seen in your photo.
I am curious because my 66 cpe. (ser#3795, AO body) does not have the dimples.
Sorry for the confusion-Guess I should MMOB!

        E.J.,

My car actually has a 3rd dimple, under the duct tape label for hole #3 in my photo in post #1.

          Gary-
Maybe part of the molding process? There is usually a reason for everything...
          Thanks

            Tom and Richard,

I am interested in what the product you use to tint the resin black. I need to repair the front lip on my '65 spare tire tub.

            Thanks,

            James West

For the fiberglass repair mixture, I used about 1/4 oz of resin, but before adding the hardener I added about 1/4 teaspoon of gray opaque pigment and 1/16 teaspoon of black pigment, to get a quite dark gray color. Then I added about 1 teaspoon of finely chopped fiberglass. The mixture was still a bit runny and since my repair was on a nearly vertical surface and I was worried about runs, I added about 1 teaspoon of colloidal silica, which is a recommended filler to make fiber resin more viscous. After adding the silica the mixture was the consistency of thick peanut butter. Then I added 3 drops of hardener and mixed everything thoroughly and quickly filled in the hole on the engine side of the fender skirt. After letting the fiberglass patch cure for a few hours I removed the taped Teflon sheet from the wheelwell side and then filled in an air pocket on that side with a new batch of the same mixture of fiberglass materials as used on the engine side.

Thanks to everyone for their helpful suggestions and for confirmation that the extra holes needed to be filled in.
