    upper radiator hose guard

I ordered the alternator bracket that holds the fan belt tight from Corvette Central for my SB 66. When the belt is tightened and secured, the top of the bracket is rubbing on the bottom of the upper radiator hose. A friend has another 66 and his is the same way. This does not seem correct. If this is "correct", does any one know if there is a "shield" of some sort that would go onto the bottom side of the radiator hose to prevent it rubbing through the bottom of the hose?

Mel, if the belt is a bit long and is toward the middle or end of adjustment that maybe the reason? As you adjust the belt the upper bracket maybe standing taller? You can try a belt that is 1/2” shorter. Or just split a small section of 3/8ths fuel hose and put it on top of bracket under the hose to prevent from rubbing, and remove for judging. Another thought is can you rotate the hose to stand taller?

If you have the correct -- upper hose, adjusting brace, fan belt, thermostat outlet & radiator; there should be an easy 1/2-3/4" of clearance afforded. Note that the "S" shape of radiator hose offers some different ways to clear the fan belt and/or the adjusting brace. Using one of the common repro hoses w/blue longitudinal stripe; I've found that most favorable non-interference position is achieved by aligning stripe with (1) thermo housing bolt head & (2) upper LH corner of the radiator inlet. Alternator pinch bolt is just about o/center too, as seen below. Careful with the clocking of radiator side Wittek tower so as not to strike hood when closed. 300HP '66 model year in photo.

        Mel,
As stated, you can twist the hose in different positions to keep it away from both the alternator belt and the adjusting brace. The correct length belt, is also, critical. I have a good 1 1/2" between the belt and the upper hose.

Love the painted blue stripes that crumble and disappear when you touch them. Or before
