    Body On Engine/Transmission/Shifter Installation

Planning to install the engine/transmission as a unit. It sure would be easier to sort/install the shifter as well before putting it back into the car. Have searched to no avail - is there room to install the shifter with the engine and transmission (4-speed)? Thanks.

If your shifter is a Hurst with the removable stick, it could probably be on the transmission when you set engine/trans in place. For any shifter with a permanently attached stick, my opinion is that you're better off installing it after the engine/trans are in.

But, full disclosure, I've never tried it; I'm speculating based on experience.

If you try installing engine/trans with shifter, what's the worst that could happen? You'd have to pull the engine back out, remove the shifter, and re-install. Let us know how well that goes!
