Color Opinion?

Re: Color Opinion?
Be very aware that evaluating color is fraught with a vast array of variables. Asking for match opinions is sketchy at best.
First, how accurate is the original photo to the true color of the car?
How much color adjustment was done automatically by the camera, computer, saving format, etc.?
How accurate is the color rendition of the viewer's monitor?
Every one of these steps and components need color calibration.- Top

Re: Color Opinion?
I agree with John - doesn't look like Nassau blue - even though that is what paint code is saying (976). To be honest, and keeping in mind all the qualifications Owen has mentioned, it looks pretty close to 1967 Lynndale Blue (paint code 977 for that year).
whatever it is, I like it
thx,

Thanks for the compliment Mark! So, would this possibly be considered points deduction when being NCRS judged for originality?I agree with John - doesn't look like Nassau blue - even though that is what paint code is saying (976). Re: Color Opinion?
Paul,
As earlier written color can vary. I found that when you see a car if the color shade is off it jumps right out at you. In this case the best thing would be to have it judged in a Chapter meet, you can get a lot of info for short $$. I agree with Mark's "I like it".- Top

Re: Color Opinion?
Body color is worth 85 points. There is a 100% originality deduction if the color does not match the trim tag color, in the judge's opinion. If the judge thinks the color is a shade off, it is 20%, metal flake size and density variations of the proper trim tag color gets a 50% deduction. Best to have it judged, as Mark says.Big Tanks In the High Mountains of New Mexico- Top

...and as Mike has indicated above, those % deducts are called "Standard Deductions" as outlined in the NCRS Judging Reference Manual (JRM) Section 4 Standard Deduction Guidelines (aka SDGs). That means they are "set" values so all cars judged are judged consistently and fairly in regard to a specific SDG.
If you don't have a JRM and a 1966 Technical Information Manual and Judging Guide (TIMJG), you should get one of each. They will be extremely helpful to you understanding what judges will be looking for before getting your car judged.
Good luck!thx,

Re: Color Opinion?
Hi Paul,
Nassau blue is one of the difficult colors to work with. Sometimes you can find some examples of original paint under the door sill plates, under the carpet and behind the door panels. Also on the back side of the removable headlight bezels and inside the headlight buckets.- Top

Re: Color Opinion?
FWIW the NCRS offers color matching through the national paint judges and IMHO if you are painting your car for NCRS judging this service alone is worth the annual dues.James A Groome
