Lost the power to stop with leak at firewall from master cylinder. I am trying to determine whether I do the repair myself, or take to my favorite shop. I last replaced the master cylinder in this car more than 35 years ago and cannot remember the details. Is it pretty straightforward? Any special tools I need? Brake bleeding won't be an issue for me but I cannot recall whether switching out the master cylinder is a simple plug-and-play or what's involved. Thanks for any advice!

It's very simple. Remove the brake line, then remove the two nuts retaining the master cylinder. Do the reverse to install. Make sure to bench bleed the master cylinder first, though. Power brake master cylinder replacement is equally simple. However, power brake booster replacement is not so simple. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
