If this helps , I have two bags from a 65 and 66 April car and both are brass rings at the edge of the bag and 11 inches long .

My question is : does anybody know when the script and lines and bow tie began to appear to be yellow rather than clear ?Was it a result of the plastic aging , or did the window cleaner cause a tinting effect ?

          Jim,

Have you confirmed that the grommets are non-magnetic? One challenging thing with the question at hand is that oxidized steel grommets can start to look brass color. So, a magnet test is important.

            Gary,

I did indeed check for magnetism and found none , just forgot to mention it .

Both are identical in front and look the same as most of the others shown #5 #24 and #29, However one has a black cloth backing And one has a tan cloth backing , or a white but old and dirty backing .

I am pleased to advise that the 1966 Team Leader received the results of this survey.

I was advised that with your input, along with added input from other members, the survey was a great help in affirming the findings pertaining to the "material" typically used on original 1966 washer bag eyelets.

Apparently, the discussion/research of the eyelets on all Mid-Year washer bags has been on-going. The 66 Revision Team is aware of the "magnetic" inaccuracy relating to the washer bag eyelets during the Sixth edition drafts and will be corrected in the next edition.

I want to thank all of you for your enthusiastic and helpful responses, all of which was considered. A special thanks to NCRS member Gary Beaupre for his support and input, as well as special thanks to 1966 Team leader Bill Calorico and the 66 team for their hard work and ongoing consideration in maintaining and improving the TIMJG.

Yes, at the National last week I lost 2 points for having a washer bag exactly like what was described in the TIM&JG in my late '66, after never having a deduction on the bag before. I had a smaller, brass eyelet bag on my shelf, but decided I should go with what was in the TIM&JG, so thanks.

Money is not the issue. It would have been nice to have TIM&JG changes as significant as this announced long before a National instead of the day the National judging on '66s starts, most of us prep our cars for a National using Regional judging sheets and any updates since the Regionals, it is too late as the car enters the judging field of a National, as you would know if you have entered one.

                          Michael,

Was this change announced in the National Judging Chairman's Restorer messages?

That's where "official" TIM&JG are supposed to be announced prior to a release of a new Manual.

Have been told for years that changes occur after a National Convention, not during.

I did not see anything about this in those messages in the last 2 Restorers. It is also not listed in the errata sheets for TIM&JG changes on the forum here. The first I heard of it was when my '66 was judged on Wednesday last week. Bill did say it had been changed, and explained the reason, but as far as I know that was not announced until the National judging started. And yes, I had always thought those kind of changes happened after a National, that is why I used the bag that had judged TFP in the Regional, instead of another one I had that was smaller and had brass eyelets, like my '65's bag.
