    1975 L-48 Radiator Fan

Good morning everyone. I need help identifying the correct radiator fan for my '75 L-48 C-60 engine. The article in this month's Restorer covers fans. Unfortunately for me, the section covering '75 SB with AC has minimal info available. Therefore is there anyone out there that can reply with a photo of their fan from a car that has been through the judging process and checked off as correct? Also let me know what/if any, numbers are on your blades, where they can be found, and if it is aluminum or steel bladed.
Thanks in advance for all replies. Lynn

    Hey Lynn
Interesting you should bring up 75 fan blades. I've attached the "soon to be published" 3rd edition of the 75-77 TIMJG pages regarding the fan blades. This took some effort and we had to reconcile usage with buildsheet part numbers. Regardless, the C60 called for a 7-blade fan. You'll see what's called out for your L48 C60 but the buzzer killer was the 266 7-blade fan. I suspect you could use it if the 715 7-blade is difficult to find.

            Re: 1975 L-48 Radiator Fan

Thanks Bob for both of your threads. Like yours, my fan has steel blades with no part number or date code. There is a faint X but we cannot completely say the T and the 2 are there. I really appreciate your help. Going to move forward with what we have and hope for the best at a regional when Tom can attend and review my car. Thanks again. Lynn

The photos are of a GM #342715 fan blade assembly which is exactly what your application should have. Attached are some photos of an NOS GM #342715 fan blade assembly [not for sale].

Here are some photos of an NOS example of a GM #469580 [not for sale]. This fan blade assembly was used for most 1976-1982 Corvettes with C-60 or heavy duty cooling.

Joe...great information and illustration to say nothing of the finish which I would liken to a semi-gloss satin black. But what caught my attention is the blade end. Can't tell if the 715 is notched or its the shadow but then the 580 shows the dramatic cut-corner blade. These would have been great to illustrate for the 75-77 TIJMG but would have taken an entire page to illustrate and explain. Of course the 580 our revision does not show the 580 was used in 75-77. And buildsheets do not show it as such either...they refer to the 266.

I've got the 78 L82 C60 Pace Car blade off and refinished it. I'll have to photograph and add to this discussion...same as the 580 you show...and documented on the buildsheet as same.

                      Thanks for sharing.

The GM #342715 blades are "notched". In fact, this is a feature unique to the 342715 as far as Corvette fans go.

                          Lynn,
I am a little late, but FWIIW here are a couple of pictures. The fan on my 1975 L48 C60 car is typical of what has been described so far, 7 Blades, steel, and as seen in the pictures notched at the top. The fan is on my car so I can't help with any identifying marks or numbers, but the car has been through the entire NCRS judging process.

Don't hesitate to reach out via PM or on this discussion board if I can help you on this topic or any other things on your Corvette.

Best of luck, it sounds like you have a great '75!

By any chance do you have in your inventory the 3999266 fan assembly? I'm curious about its configuration compared to the 715 and 570 assemblies as described below.

I see several differences between the 715 assembly and the 580 assembly to include
                            1. the number of rivets that secure the blades to the assembly center piece (three vs. five),
                            2. the configuration of the tab used to attach each blade (triangular vs. rounded; and
                            3. the tabs of the center part are pressed to form a notch to strengthen the assembly.

Also, do you have schematics that show the assembly and its descriptions of these features?
