C2 (66) Front Parking Brake Cable Question

Could some-one explain how to attach the cable ball to the parking brake handle on my 66. Do I have to remove the parking brake handle ? Thanks in Advance>Larry P.S. Don't have yet but will be getting Bair's Corvette #4606 front cable.

Larry, If I remember right, the small aluminum pin with a square block on it's top needs to be pulled out. It presses on the parking brake switch at the firewall end. It's just lightly pressed in and has splines. When it's out the handle will turn to access the hole for the ball. If I've missed something, I'll check a car later.

Mark: Is the access hole right by the handle or closer to the small aluminum pin? Anything else I should know
before I go into this project. Larry

The hole is near the end of the shaft the handle is on. Once you pull the switch stop out, the handle will turn a little clockwise and fully expose the hole and slot for the cable. Careful pulling the aluminum stop pin as it is soft.

Mark>I want to thank you very much for helping on this subject. Something tells me there is a lot of other members reading
your advice as this is a subject that hardly ever comes up. Now to carry it a little farther>
Once you place the cable ball in the hole and turn the handle counter clockwise I assume this action locks the ball in;correct?
Is there anything I should know when the aluminum pin is pushed back in? Does the warning light switch have to be positioned
in a certain way? Thanks you very much again>Larry

Re: C2 (66) Front Parking Brake Cable Question

With the cable in and all adjustments to parking brake shoes than cables made, there should be tension from the parking brake spring to hold all tight. And yes, when the switch pin is back in, the handle won't rotate enough to release the ball end. If all parts bolt up as designed, than as the handle turns while releasing parking brake, the stop pin will line up and depress the switch.
