1963-1967 rear bumpers-inner lower brace

Both of my braces have at one end an elongated hole. Where does this end go, on the bumper or on the frame? Trying to determine which end is best for adjustments. Thanks, Jack J.

The elongated hole is attached at the frame.

Thanks Leif, that's how I installed both of them. However I'm still struggling to get the right bumper fully attached. The corner bumper bracket is no where near the body hole and inner bracket. Plus the quarter panel end holes do not line up. In order to get the end hole/holes to line up, I would have to horizontally elongate the 1/4 body panel's flat protrusion. I just might skip that last side hole bolt. Jack J.

Has your car had rear end body damage in the past? Did the bumpers fit prior to removal? Were they pre-fit prior to any paint work? Can you take some pictures of exactly where your current issues are arising?

Also Jack, if this is a body-off reassembly, did you tighten all body mounts?

If so you may have to loosen up and lever it over or reshim.

Damn shame the bumpers weren't pre-fit before paint and body. Not that it would have made any difference. It appears by your pictures (with the level on the wrap-around part of the bumper) that that bumper is bent. Again, hard to say from pictures but that is what it appears to be. Do you have access to any original (not repro) bumpers you could use to compare?
