    Re: 1971 Alternator Identification

    Richard------

This is an alternator that has been through a commercial rebuilding operation and is made up from major components, including the drive end case half, originally residing on different alternators.

GM #1100721 was a DN series (external regulator) alternator used for marine applications. However, a drive end case for a DN series alternator can be used to assemble an SI (internal regulator) alternator and that appears what has been done in this case.

Rear case halves cannot be interchanged between DN and SI series alternators. So, this alternator has a rear case half that originally resided on an SI series alternator.
