    1963 Tripometer Cable Routing

    Hello,

Based on what I see in the AIM, the cable goes from the cluster up into the hole on the top of the brake/clutch pedal bracket. When I route it this way and attach it to the bracket on the steering column, there is one heck of a kink and the tripometer reset doesn't function.

Thoughts? Any pictures of your 63 routing? Much appreciated,

    Jerry

I don't have any pictures of mine, but yeah, the cable requires a "twist" to install it per the AIM.

You can see how it has to bend to get the reser knob facing downard at the end of this video where I install a homemade bracket to disable the trip meter by keeping it in permanent "reset" which extends the life of the regular odometer by about double by unloading the gear train.

My reset knob is on the right side of the column in my car and I'm not sure if that is what the AIM shows when I look at it.

Thanks. The reset knob should be on the right side. Maybe I should take it out and try to lubricate it a little better...

Interesting, I've dealt with Bowdeon cables, parking brake and speedometer cables etc. Never saw a tool to "unfreeze" them short of multipld doese of PB-Blaster and working the heck out of them. Love to see a pic !

I needed to replace the reset cable itself. It moves nicely and the routing is correct.

                    Thanks

This same issue caused a fail on my opps check. The aftermarket cable seems to not be the best and it had a rubber knob that was difficult to push and turn. I was going to try my original and see if it worked any better.

                          Thomas,

Did you ever hear back from the person who sells the repair tool?

No, he told me that he wouldn't be able to reply until after the new year. Gave me a reason but I don't want to list it here.

Frank, saw one of your previous posts about the bracket to disable the trip odometer. The trip odometer works but the reset does not - will have to take a failed ops if I can't fix without taking the cluster out so I plan to disable to save wear on the primary odometer. Can you PM me and let me know cost of the bracket please Sir? I would like one if you still have them.
                              Thanks,
                              Fred
