Re: Significance to a low serial number
The first few corvettes ever made are important after that I see no reason for increased value. Last 63 last 67 first strike coins fist day stamps. All hype by salesman. Enjoy the car drive the daylights out of it.- Top

Re: Significance to a low serial number
About a year ago some guy on eBay was asking in the neithborhood of 1/4 million for a pretty plain-Jane white/red split window with the price based on the fact it was the 52nd car built (supposedly). I don't know what it sold for (or if it did) but it was a ridiiculous predicate for such a price.
Unless it is a VERY early care <#10 I'd rather have a later production car in the first year of a new design.
E.g. later split windows had some necessary refinements, such as the reinforcing bar on the glove box door to prevent cracking, the elimination of the funky (and unnecessary hood blocks), the Muncie transmission, etc.
Conversely, some things got more problematic later in the year; e.g. the instrument cluster modified for A/C became weaker along the bottom and I have repaired one and seen at least 2-3 others cracked by an errant knee or ham-fisted mecahnics.- Top

Re: Significance to a low serial number
I have recently seen this written by an apparently knowledgeable Corvette racing guy in California about the early Z06 VINs, it says this:"I think as per the timeline, the #008 was a running and driving car used for testing Z06 wares, but as Vin #008, it is part of production. This car was shipped air freight for Mickey Thompson's team, into Burbank Airport on Sept 25th, thus first Z06 car delivered.
So production starts, and #684, #701, and #813 are picked up at the factory and driven back, leaving Detroit, early in the first few days into October. It basically is a 2 day trip!" What do you think?Big Tanks In the High Mountains of New Mexico- Top

Re: Significance to a low serial number
Mike, I was not referring to your Z06 question. Yes Z06's started early, but the VIN number in the picture from the OP has VIN 20226. He posted it as VIN 226. So, 20226 could not be an early Z06.I have recently seen this written by an apparently knowledgeable Corvette racing guy in California about the early Z06 VINs, it says this:"I think as per the timeline, the #008 was a running and driving car used for testing Z06 wares, but as Vin #008, it is part of production.
