For Pete's sake make sure you have the approriate tool, some get away with a large crescent wrench but the right socket is better.
If you round off that fill plug (or dreain plug) you won't be happy (ask me how I know).

Jack, why do you wish to see inside?

Even with the right tool, these plugs can be impossible to remove. A cast iron or steel plug in the aluminum case breeds galvanic corrosion virtually "welding" the plug to the case.

As well I know Joe, I sold my 63 with a frozen Muncie fill plug, the owner was informed but it didn't matter to him.
I tried heat (MAPP torch), PB-Blaster, 50/50 acetone/transmission fluid, Freeze-Off, every fancy extractor product made, etc. to no avail.
If I kept the car the transmission would have had to come out at some point for a fix.

That plug can literally become metallicly integrated into the case.
