Easily $500 - I paid that 6 years ago for a Bill Mock restored 609...

        Bill------.

If this is what you're referring to, it's the '609' casting that's expensive. The '608' is much easier to find and much less expensive.

You’re right. absolutely no comparison in rarity/price.

              I'll never forget that night.

Crazy thing is, if you recall, I bought a rebuilt 608 from my vendor, and THAT failed too! I ran the car up the road, came back, and it was making noises, leaking, and the doggone bearing had about 1/4" of fan tip play in it.

I gave up on vendor rebuilt pumps. I do them myself. Getting burned is ugly.

So, when I restored a 61 fuelie, I decided to go for the fine new reproduction 609. I now have it on the wall as garage art.....

Long post all about it here....

Rick pretty sure I remember reading about your adventure leaking right through the body. Makes a good 50 yard target.

Just a tid bit, but when I did my pump using their measurments for the pulley flange, I found it to be off a bit over 1/16 of an inch and had to align it to get the belts really good.

There were two slightly different hub spacings for small block water pumps used in part of the C2 era. If rebuilding a pump, the best thing to do is to measure the hub spacing of the pump being removed and set the hub spacing of the rebuilt pump to the same.

Joe, that's good advice. I did what you suggested , belts looked good before, but I used a straight edge to find the error.
