My car is a 64 with dark blue interior.
I have primer, dark blue dye and satin clear coat from Corvette America all in spray cans. I've used the dye to touch up a few small chips on my center console. The color matches perfectly but the gloss level is different where I touched it up. The areas I painted are flatter looking than the areas I did not. I'd like to make it look uniform and correct.
I'm either going to strip and repaint the whole thing or just spray clear coat over the existing paint/dye.
Should the center console paint be flat or slightly glossy? It may be subjective but I'm wondering if it should be just blue dye or should it be topped with the satin clear coat?
I've read posts saying to use primer and others saying to just apply a couple thin coats of dye so the grain doesn't wash out. If I strip it and start over should I use primer or not?
I'm thinking I'll mask it and spray the clear coat first and see if that does it. If not I'll strip it and start over.
Suggestions????
