Hey Jerry I am curious IF your car has the original Pilot Bushing??

If replaced do you know IF it was the right material (should have been NON-magnetic??)

    - If it was the often delivered magnetic material Pilot Bushing this could be your noise problem

I heard of only ONE noise problem with magnetic bushing

      - have had good luck with the LUK kits ; that probably had the magnetic bushing (LUK typically does kit testing)
      - therefore , it seems to be an inconsistant problem with noise caused by magnetic bushing (not quick failures??)
      - maybe more sensitive to clearances??? OR sensitive to grease type??

I would be interested to hear any recent experiences with magnetic bushing???
-PRO or Con ; would like to understand WHAT the issue is
      - NOT a lot of speed or load on this bushing
      - Maybe excessive riding of the clutch / Cruising causes this noise over time??

I am curious how many miles on the bushing from the ORIGINAL Poster???

Oi-lite bronze does appear like powdered metal or "sintered" metal. That's the nature of oil-lite bronze and that's why it has "oil" in its name. The tiny "pores" are what retains the oil and provides continuous lubrication.

I have found the original GM pilot bushings which are definitely oil-lite bronze to be ever-so-slightly-magnetic----not magnetic enough to stick to a magnet but enough so that a VERY slight attraction can be felt.

The current GM bushing, GM #10125896, is the same as the above-referenced National bushing. I'm not sure that it's true oil-lite bronze but it will work acceptably.

Either way it’s looks like you are going to pull transmission to inspect for the problem. If it was my car and the transmission has no history of a rebuild it would be wise to have this done at the same time, and if the clutch assy. Has not been done, replace as well. Also if you do find the retainer is broken or not they make a retainer of cast iron, so much smoother operation.

I hate to dig this up from 6 months ago, but...
Does anyone know where to source the cast iron front bearing retainer referenced above that will fit a 1963 T-10, i.e. small enough to fit the original bellhousing?
The original aluminum one on the 63 here is scored and bent.

Have you tried D&L Transmission (dandltransmission.com)?

While, as far as Corvette goes, it was for 1963-only 3 and 4 speeds, it's other applicability goes WAY back. I'll send you an e-mail.

              Joe,

Did not try them, though I've used them years ago.
Current rebuild kit is from 5speeds.com. I've talked to Paul on the phone as well, and he was quite helpful.
