My state DMV is giving me problems over the vin tag being screwed on my 1954 Corvette. I need some rock solid official info from somewhere, preferably from GM that states that 1954 Corvettes have screws holding the vin tag on. This car is legit. I have owned it for over 10 years, I bought it from a established dealer and the frame matches the vin. I have the NCRS repo assembly manual and I have Nolan Adams restoration guide vol 1. I am not sure these will be enough. I checked at the GM heritage site and I really did not see anything that might help me. Any ideas?

Your 1954 Technical Information Manual & Judging Guide (TIMJG) should say how the VIN Tag (Plate) is attached. If you don't have one, you should definitely get one thru the NCRS store.
Also, the NCRS Specifications Guide ('53 to '67) says '53s thru '55s attach with Philips head screws.
Finally, with a matching frame VIN, it would seem three means of documentation would be sufficient, but then again, who knows about Oregon?
If you have owned the car for 10+ years, what has caused the issue that your DMV is involved with your VIN Plate?thx,

Maybe a notarized letter from our Judging Chair could help.- Top

Don't forget there is a VIN tag photo in Noland Adams' Vol 1 "Corvette Restoration and Technical Guide". I was prepared to show that photo during a police VIN inspection but he believed me that screws were correct.- Top
