65 Corvette tele turn signal switch

When I tighten the steering column hub nut over the turn signal switch it appears to have the hub pressing on the switch assembly causing the top and bottom switch halves to separate causing the switch not to work. The switch screw in the back remains tight. This happened several times and I am wondering if my hub spring is too weak causing the hub to push on the switch? I am torqueing the nut to 40 inlb.

Dave not sure if it'll help as it's a bit busy but here are the prints for the column. You'll have to zoom in for detail of the hub and switch area.

While the tele steering column was out of the car I examined the old turn signal switch and compared it to a new one I had just purchased. I noticed that the two sponge wipers were missing from the old switch. I assume that these wipers are to keep the horn contact under the cancelling cam clean? I borrowed the wipers from the new switch and installed them in my old switch. Reinstalled the remaining parts and the hub and performed a continuity check on all of the appropriate connections and it passed all of the tests (stop light, RH turn, LH turn). Reinstalled the column and and everything works except the left side instrument blinking turn indicator.

Correction!! Left front TS light not working. I would assume that this would prevent the inside cluster bulb from flashing?

Dave, Correct as both are from the same source... TS switch.

Does it light, but not blink?

You'll have to check for voltage at the front directional lamp socket. Double check the 3 connections...

              1- underdash connector
              2- bulkhead connector
              3- wheel well plug

Connection at accordion connector was loose. However, now I must hold the turn signal lever hard left to get the inside cluster light and outside LF light to blink. I did no heat fuse the lever to the plastic switch housing.

Dave it appears the internal contacts are a problem. If you can open it up you may be able to correct it. If you get it apart post some photos.
