69 BB w/AC Heater Core Tube Length

Almost impossible to get tower clamps onto my heater hoses at the core and still be able to tighten. Would be much easier if the tubes came down pass the heater box so I'm wondering if I may have a non-original heater core and tubes are slightly shorter. The end of my tubes come down about even with the bottom of the heater box cover. Anyone know if that's about the length on an original core? Once I place the tower clamps on each can only be accessed from one direction, very awkward, and just doesn't seem correct.

What you're describing sounds TFP.They are a real PITA. One example of the many easy-to-service features of these cars (not).

Thanks Mark. Yeah, can't say that I'm surprised and agree, working on a '69 BB A/C car is a PITA. There's just no room for all the crap they put under the hood.
