    In my opinion....

The worker is installing the #4 body bolt using his air gun to spin it up into the square nut inside the cabin.

The guy on the other side dropped the bolt and was under the car reaching for it. ...lol.

Jack, any way to find from your friend when they may have used that photo in the paper. I just searched ever post dispatch for the month of Feburary and every page from every paper to see if they used it in Feb. No Luck! Jan 28 & 29 too No luck.

Now off to ice my eyeballs.

Gary- THANX for your very kind wordz... I simply hope my research adds some aspects of legitimacy to this 65 photo.
But I believe we now have another potential issue to consider... whatz going on with those 'unpainted' SB exhaust manifolds?

Philip- The photographer I spoke with wasn't even alive when that photo was taken. Searching the newspaper PHOTO archive (not available to the public), he reused it in other projects... so we have no idea if/when it was originally published. He promised to contact me, if any other info materialized, but I'm not holding my breath.

Michael & Philip- Excellent observation. That newspaper did publish an 'Everyday Magazine' special on March 11, 1965 (with a Corvette body drop on the front page). I didn't bother him about that issue, as itz far more important when a photo was taken.

Indeed, and how about that precisely painted front exhaust pipe section of blackout, just below the manifolds, when it has been described as "sloppy", and only the rear portion of the exhaust mentioned, and in '63-'64 it has been described as being applied by a "mop or mitt".......

Mike- When discussing this exact image on CorvetteForum in 2017, it appears your review and comments are now polar opposites.

Micheal Hanson (who worked on the St Louis assembly line & posted that exact image) commented the following:
"Just prior to body drop, most of the exhaust system was spray coated with chassis black (black goo) along with many other areas of the chassis. And yes, for 63 and 64 most of the rear suspension and drive was also coated with the same black goo before it ever left the basement of the plant. The differential, half shafts, control arms and propeller shaft were all coated."

In your response to Michael Hanson's comments, you fully agreed (using the 'I Agree' emoji) and added:
"And one of my '64s, restored by a famous restorer, has all this duplicated exactly."

As a side note, very similar images of that 1963-64 exhaust blackout appear in Noland's book.
I fully admit to NOT being a judge... I'm more into the research side (mainly documents).
With all due respect, what has changed in the past few years... why the reversal of your opinion?

In the end, I believe the image speaks for itself... I've presented the evidence, and stand by my research.
Should I be in error, I'll be first to admit it (certainly wouldn't be the first time).
I have no intent on dragging out the debate any further... we can simply agree to disagree.
Be well, my friend... and Happy Holidayz.

No, not polar opposites at all and not a reversal in my opinions, I am just making an observation on this alleged 1965 photo......all my '64s exhibit this as I described, all judged as TFP, but this is a '65, .... supposedly........

I doubt very much that extra lighting was necessary. In all likelihood, a fluorescent fixture like the one you see at the top-middle of the photo spanning several bays was also present in the same location on the left. Body drop needs lots of light.

Last two steps of the Chassis Line:
                        • Install #1-2-3-4 body mount spacers/cushions with shims per frame markings and tape to frame brackets.
                        • Spray chassis blackout paint on the outboard side of both mufflers.

                        Body Drop (BD):
                        • Apply compression fixture to both tailpipes and throw over-center lever to pull mufflers together so they clear quarter panels, place shift lever in neutral.
                        • Drop body on frame using alignment pins at radiator support mount and at #4 body mount; drive all body mount bolts and remove tailpipe compression fixture. Vehicle remains elevated on Chassis conveyor.

                        Final Line (FL):
                        • Connect pink, tan, and ground wires to fuel tank sending unit 😊 on passenger side does this, too?, attach antenna ground strap to frame <<MRF note: same guy in photo on driver side does this, too?
                        • Next station does this?>> Install off-line bench fixture-subassembled grille and front bumpers as a unit, using header-located fixture for fit/parallel; install outer braces last.
                        • Install rear bumpers, route/strap fuel drain hose to RH support rod.
                        • Install covers on #3 body mount access holes.
                        • Install rear valance panel to body rear and quarter panels, install bright tailpipe extensions and clamps.
                        • Install P48 knock-off wheel hub adapters to front and rear hubs with special lug nuts.
                        • Install wheels & tires, install spare tire in tub and secure tray at rear.
                        • Vehicle transfers from [sic: elevated] Chassis conveyor to flat-top conveyor, on its tires.
                        thx,
                        Mark

shifter handle-02.jpgIn 2017 I was a much less experienced judge, and I was not sweating taking a '65 through judging like now, just my '64s.......
BTW, don't you find it odd that the colorized one shows chalk marks on the back of the heads for suffix codes, while John's picture, allegedly very near in time, has stickers, as you pointed out in his picture?

Indeed, all images (the color one from a 1965 Corvette - and B&W from a 1966 Corvette) are total fakes.
I can't carry on my charade any longer... herez the original Area 51, staged image:
