Here's an overview of the area of Bowling Green. The Corvette plant and Motorsports park start about the 4:50 mark into the video....

First a sinkhole, now a tornado. I hope NCM has good insurance.

I remember sometime in the late 1990s when NCRS held a regional at the NCM a week or so after a tornado had come through. Rooftops were covered with tarps and auto dealerships had plywood fronts with no cars on the lots.

I'm ready to move back to NC. Here's our airport, about an hour drive from the museum...

Reba...thankfully, our hangar was untouched. Anne and I are moving back to Southport, NC in the next couple years. We just secured a piece of property to build a house.
It'll be nice to come home.

As the above link says, Chevrolet has announced that Corvette production will begin, in stepped fashion, December 20, 2021. That is a remarkable turn around given the appearance of the damage to the plant. Kudos to them and the hard work of the maintenance staff.

The Christmas and New Years Holidays will interfere with going to full production. I also expect full staffing might be an issue given the community damage. There is probably damage to some/many employees residences that ought to delay full staffing. Making up for the scraping of those one hundred + Corvettes will also require a lot of hard work under some very trying circumstances.

                        Re: NCM and Assembly Plant

I'm having difficulty understanding the concept of "scrapping" all of these Corvettes.
                        Is it "scrapping" or "salvaging"?

I understand exterior body components (anything painted - and/or glass) may be damaged beyond sensible repair efforts...
I also understand if there was any water damage of any kind, but what about:
                        • engines
                        • transmissions
                        • wheels and tires
                        • select chassis components
                        • seats, etc.

It seems to me many of the above could have escaped major damage - if not any damage at all(?)

I also understand Corporate Product Liability, but aren't there ways to make these vehicles "UNSALEABLE" to the general public (like remove VIN tags, etc.) and sell to a vendor of interest as "salvage-only-titled" vehicles?
                        Inquiring minds want to know...
                        thx,
                        Mark

Wonder how the NCM's going to handle the museum deliveryC8's at the race track that were damaged ?

General Motors inspectors are still examining the fallout from the tornado and fire damage at the Bowling Green Assembly Plant that produces the C8 Chevrolet Corvette. According to the Corvette Action Center, first reports indicate about 122 units of the 2022 Corvette inside the plant were damaged beyond repair. These models will be scrapped. GM will reach out to the dealers for the affected customers and let the dealers know to resubmit their orders. Supposedly, those remade orders will be prioritized when production lines reopen this week. Carscoops, reporting on discussions at the C8 Corvette Owners page on Facebook, noted a post by Tom Ringelsetter. "Heads up everybody. My VIN was 10109 and scheduled to be built this past Monday the 13th according to the spreadsheet here. I just got a call from my dealer that my car was actually built last Thur/Friday. Unfortunately, it was damaged and has to be rebuilt. He said all of the damaged cars are going to go back to the front of the line. If you had a VIN # somewhere around mine, there is a chance your car was built and is fine hopefully."
The scrappage number could increase. There were Corvettes parked outside the facility for shipping that are still being checked for damage.
A skeleton crew of 90 skilled workers from UAW Local 2164 has stayed on the job since the weather disturbance, out of 1,200 total line workers. GM quickly moved people and resources from facilities as far away as Detroit to help rebuild, so GM's intention to begin the process of making Bowling Green fully operational on Monday, December 20 will continue as planned. A "cadenced return" will ramp up the headcount for four days, with the whole workforce scheduled to be back on Thursday, December 23. Meanwhile, workers will be helping Bowling Green residents; the Union Local received so many gift cards to help members that the union plans to use some of the purchasing power to help the community at large.
