    1989-96 "Skip Shift"

I've been living with the terribly annoying and confusing "skip shift" on my 1992 with ZF trans for 30 years now (although the car has seen few miles for the last 25 years). I just disconnected the solenoid lead and used the "end caps" to protect the connector.

Has anyone that's done this subsequently experienced any problems (e.g. setting trouble codes, emissions test problems, etc.)?

I did this on my 1990 ZR-1 with no problems. I'm not sure if this is relevant for your LT1.

I did it on my 2008 Z06 when i was new. 96K miles later no issues. YMMV.

I disconnected the solenoid on my '92 LT1 in 1998 and only re-connected it briefly for the PV in 2011. (I don't remember if Tom checked for the skip shift operation. He probably did.) No problems....

Where's the best place to order a "skip shift" from ?

Haven't encountered that light on my '92 ZR-1, but have only put a couple of thousand miles on it since I bought it a couple of years ago.

          Thanks,

          Gary

That's because you're keeping your foot into it. The LT5 is an awesome sounding engine.

              Re: 1989-96 "Skip Shift"

Thanks to all. I figured there would be no trouble caused by eliminating the "skip shift" but for something like this empirical evidence is the best.

By the way, the 1990-96 skip shift solenoid, GM #10140541, carried a GM list price of over $800 when it was discontinued. I wonder how many of these they ever sold?
