I see Arthur Gould Rebuilders moved to Mass now, I'd be interested to hear if the new entity is still doing quality work. Arthur Gould himself retired years ago, he did great work.

Gary, you might want to see if the rebuilder can supply you with some replacement bottoms for the rebuild. They may have some spares.

Gary, good information. I thought they might have also purchased the parts inventory as well.

I dealt with the previous owner when they were still on Long Island about 10 years ago and they did a good job on a 40083 pump I sent them.
Just looked back and found that invoice, well under $100 back then including return shipping (very reasonable I thought).

i have three 65 FI vets and have rebuilt their 3 original 40083 fuel pumps in the last year or two. i use the guts from the currently available ac delco 40083 pumps , gm # 6415325. as i recall, these pumps were a tad over 60 bucks apiece. they will supply you with the double domed bottom cover but they won't have the correct fillister head fasteners with the embossed S. i was lucky, my 3 original pumps had never been apart. it takes me about an hour to take the guts out of the current delcos and install them in my original 40083's. good luck, mike

            Mike,

That was my plan for getting a base plate using an Airtex 40083 donor. But it appears the Airtex 40083 has been discontinued. Also, the GM 6415325 has also been discontinued, but maybe some resellers still have it in stock.

i agree not much is correct but would be ok for the guts and the lower plate for 75-100 dollars

Gary, do you happen to know a friendly dealership parts department guy? I can't remember the part, but a couple of years ago I needed a recently discontinued chevy part. I when to a local dealership and the part guy was able to look the part up and found some in two other dealerships in other states. He either could not or would not get them for me, but he did give me the contact info for the other dealerships.

I call the parts department of one and they guy verified he had the part and was willing to take my order and ship it to me.

It may be worth a try to get one of the Airtex versions of the 40083.

Did some Internet searching this morning for both GM and Airtex part numbers and didn't find anything except on Ebay which are way overpriced.

I use a GM dealership quantity search engine called PartsVoice.com, which will report specific quantity and dealer name and phone number. I’ve used that website many times in the past, with very good success, especially with parts that have been recently discontinued, but still in inventory at some dealers around the country.

Yesterday, I used PartsVoice with the GM 6415325 and it only reports one place in the country that claims to have the 6415325 part. But that place is Craig Motors in Napa (CA, I presume). Trouble is, every single time I’ve used PartsVoice, no matter what GM part number, Craig Motors comes up, but every singke time I’ve called them they don’t have the part. So, they either don’t use the system properly, or they are intentionally entering qty=1 for all GM parts even though they know they don’t have any. So, after getting that result a half dozen times, I stopped contacting Craig Motors when they show up as the only dealer with a GM part.

But when other dealers show up in the list with specific quantities, PartsVoice works great and I highly recommend it.

I would probably buy an Airtex version if I could get one for $60, just to get the base plate, but no one has one, which suggests to me that Airtex has discontinued them as well.

Today, I was able to track down a good, used, stamped steel base plate and a set of original S screws from Rich Pasqualone, who is redoing the zinc dichromate finish for me.

                              James,

People looking for 40083-clone pumps in the future are going to have a hard time finding them unless someone starts making them again.
