Re: 40083 fuel pump stamped steel base plate
Bob,
In looking at those 40083 pumps on eBay from z11pacer, I’m pretty sure those are the GM (AC) 6415325 pumps that Mike was talking about that sold for $60ish until they were discontinued not so very long ago. They don’t have the large AC embossing on the tower, they don’t have the reinforcement gussets at the base of the tower, they probably don’t have the 40083 stamping on the flange. Nor likely do they have the S embossed screws. I’m not sure about the pivot pin details. So, at $320 inc shipping, + $30 or so in tax for CA buyers, you’re getting something that is not all that correct.

I expect these AC pumps are simply the aftermarket, "generic" pumps sold under a variety of brands (Airtex, Carter, etc.). AC has not manufactured a mechanical fuel pump in MANY years and even LONG before AC Division ceased to be a GM manufacturing division. When the AC logo disappeared from the pump castings is about the time that the manufacturing change occurred.
This does not mean that the non-AC-manufactured pumps are no good. In fact, they are just about the "only game in town" now.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 40083 fuel pump stamped steel base plate
Remeber that back in 2009 I replaced the fueo pump on my '65 L79 so I went down to the basement to find the old fuel pump. This is the one that I found in the box with the tag AC 40083 dated K6. I would assume this was an over the counter GM replacement my dad bought back in the mid 1970's whwn he bought the car. Now I just need to go crawl under the car and see what I replaced it with.

Re: 40083 fuel pump stamped steel base plate
Do not believe that the "IN" was on the production pumps. The 64 pump is original ! The 67 was purchased in 67, replaced since car would stall so tried fuel first (no it was the TI)
Hope this helps Note the yellow lines left from rubber.- Top

Jim, that exact same pump was still available in 2006 (I purchased one) except for the screws which were hex head by then. Has the GM tag on it just like yours. Maybe you replaced it with the same pump.Remeber that back in 2009 I replaced the fueo pump on my '65 L79 so I went down to the basement to find the old fuel pump.
