    I would love to know this as well...
    I have a chapter Top Flight 2019, National Top Flight of 96.4 in 2019.

    The way understand it is: I still need my 100% PV and a 97%+ regional or national before the FINAL 97%+ national/DUNTOV.

      Either way, but you still need to finish the process with a 97 or better at the National.

      The Duntov is 3 steps. The first two are the PV and a 97%. These must be done at a Regional or National event, and either one may be done first.
      The third step is a 97% which must be done at a National.
      There is a 3 year timeline to do these.

      Your recent Chapter event qualifies you to do a PV if you wish to do that first.

        I would recommend you do the flight judging for the 97+ at a regional first. You need to be well over 97 to have the confidence to attempt to pass the much more rigorous PV attempt(s) before going to a national. Good luck.

          James, you have stated correctly the requirements for Duntov. To summarize, prerequisites are: Flight judging at a regional with Top Flight achievement of at least 97 percent and successful PV at a different regional or a National (this is pass or fail at no less than 100%); then Duntov sign-off at a National which requires Flight judging at that same final National with another Top Flight achievement of at least 97 percent.

          There is a 3 year time period to accomplish the prerequisites including the final National sign-off with the clock starting at the first regional Flight judging for Top flight. My suggestion would be as follows: Flight judging for Top flight (have to be Flight judged before a PV attempt) at a regional of at least 97 percent then PV at a second regional then the final National with Top flight judging and at 97 percent for Duntov achievement. You could be get the PV at a different National but that could make for a long week if the PV attempt is not successful on that first try.

            I might add that the 97% has to be a pure 97, no driving points.

              And others recommend the PV first. It's much more difficult, and the 3 year clock doesn't start until you pass the PV.
              Once you get the first 97, that would also start the 3 year clock.

              I'm trying for a PV with my car this year, and holding off on the 97.
              I know ahead of time that the car may or may not make 97 since it's unrestored, but I'd like the PV pass anyway.

                The PV is the most difficult and nerve racking part of the Duntov, ask me how I know. I would get a 97 at a Regional and then go for the PV. At that point you have proven the car will do well at the last step, 97 at the National.

                  I understand, I know people who prize the PV as a stand alone award, and it truly is. Just be aware that the judging at a National vs. a Regional can be very different.

                    I too am dealing with an original car and even though I have a couple of 100% operations I feel like the perfect PV is going to be more difficult than gaining 45 points - (1%) on my national score. I am most concerned with wind noise from the old latex weatherstripping - so much so that I bought NOS weatherstripping in the event I need to replace it.

                      Yes, wind noise is a real problem when failing PV, that and rattles from old, unrestored cars.

                        I don't plan on replacing anything like that on my Bowtie car.
                        I've done some other functional repairs, but it otherwise is what it is. Thankfully I know it's tight and quiet.

                        It was judged by some well-known Master Judges at our Chapter Meet in 2019, so I think I've got a grasp on its points potential.

                          Thanks everyone. Back in 09’, on another forum, John Hinckley stated that it’s a three step process. Any flight award at a chapter, then PV at a regional or national, then flight at 97+ at the national convention. Somebody questioned no 97 at a regional also, John said no. He said the only 97 you need, is at the national convention. It’s listed in section 7 of the corvette judging reference manual.

                            Just look on this NCRS website and find the definition!

                            This award was created by the National Corvette Restorers Society in 1985, in honor of Mr. Zora Arkus-Duntov, long-time Chief Engineer for the Chevrolet Corvette, who retired from General Motors in 1975. The Duntov Award recognizes individuals for the restoration and preservation of 1953 -1974 Corvettes. To achieve this coveted award, an owner must attain a judging score of at least 97% out of 100 % based on an original "as manufactured" standard at a National or Regional NCRS event; as well as present the car for a rigorous performance test of all vehicle mechanical components and functions, all of which must operate as those of a new car, without a single failure. Finally, the car must again score at least 97%, at a National NCRS Convention, to receive the Duntov Award. The process of achieving the Duntov Award requires attendance at a minimum of three events, and must be completed within a three year period. Only 1,116 Corvettes have achieved the NCRS Duntov Mark of Excellence Award.
