    C3 Rear Shock Rebuild

    1987CD5A-6389-424E-9218-5B93A67EE61F.jpg

Does anyone rebuild these shocks or are there any bushing kits available that I can have pressed in ?? Certainly would like to get them back on the car for another 49 years of use !!

I’ve got a number of small pieces that I will be replacing, the trailing arms will probably go to Bair’s for a complete rebuild. I’ve got new bolts, shims and strut rod bushings also from Bairs but the one open issue I have is my original rear shocks. While the dampening action of the shocks feels great the top/bottom rubber bushings are certainly shot.

The lower bushings were once available from GM under GM #3735334 but are long-since discontinued. The original lower bushings were actually a one piece design whereas the aforementioned SERVICE bushings were 2 piece. However, once installed, the 2 piece bushings are equally functional and indiscernible from originals. Plus, they are much easier to install. The bushings are available from Corvette parts sources like Dr. Rebuild, etc.

The upper bushings were never available separately from GM. As far as I know, they are not available in the aftermarket, either.

John, Zip Corvette sells bushings for the shocks, they have the two piece rubber lowers and a one piece poly. Lower, and the uppers as well.

maybe just rub some paint into the rusty areas vs complete repaint so they fit in better with your quite original car?

I love unrestored cars, kinda partial to ones with at least one chrome bumper.
