IF you are trying to compress all the fingers on the cable to either install it or remove it - get a small hose clamp - the kind that you tighten with a bolt in it - piece of cake -

      Exactly.

And, you can't pull the cable out through the front as the rear fitting is too large.
The cable has to go backward.

That won't work for the one inside the frame.

I'll try and get a photo tonight to show it.

Patrick, Understood, are you trying to save the cable?

            Nope.

Both sides are broken at the drum end and have to be replaced. However, if there's an easy way to remove them without using the Dremel, that's what I am after. The conduit trick sounds interesting.

Anyone can hack it off the car. I'm looking for the right way.

              Attached are two photos.

Cable front shows them as viewed from the front of the car. This is the hole that has to be used to access the locking fingers discussed above.

Cable rear shows the cable with the retention washer. It's tight against the crossmember, and you cannot wiggle it. No access here.

Joe is stating that conduit inserted from Cable front (and I assume with a slit in it for the cable to go inside) will slide back and over the locking fingers to allow the cable to be withdrawn from the rear.

1/2" copper tubing won't go over the base of the cable inside the frame. The 1/2" aluminum conduit has thin wall? I have a piece and it fits, but just a bit too wide compress all of the fingers. Thoughts???

Is this 1/2" measurement and ID or OD?

Jerry, I do not have a piece or piping. But it is the same as indoor piping. I had some one locally that told me this, it’s been about 10 years ago. Memory???did you try tapping with a small hammer?

                            Ed,

The 1/2" thin wall tubing I have bottoms out against the chassis and I can see it on the inner cable with a flashlight that it is bottoming out. I'm going to an electrical supplier to see what I can find that might work.

                            Thanks

My piece of conduit is about 0.62 inside, 0.71 outside.
I got a 1 foot piece from an electrician friend. Any building project or electrician likely has scraps.
I did bevel the inner and outer edges of the cut to smooth them a bit and remove burrs.

                                Patrick,

I got a piece of conduit that fits the measurements you provided. The cables inside the chassis still won't release. Any other ideas that might help?

                                Thanks
