Need Tips on How to "Rough In" a New Side Hung Float

I had the float in the primary bowl of my Holley carburetor fill up with gas, causing the carb to flood.
After installing the new float, I would like to be able to "rough it in" prior to re-attaching the float bowl
and running the engine for a final adjustment.

I don't have a Holley Renew Kit, which is supposed to have a cardboard gauge inside for making the
float adjustment. I read on a muscle-car site that you can do it as follows:

    1) Invert the fuel bowl and adjust the side-hung float to a specific distance between the top of the float and the roof of the bowl

    2) The primary float can be adjusted to achieve a 7/64" gap between the toe of the float (the portion of the float farthest from the pivot point) and the bowl roof.

    3) You can use a 7/64" drill bit as the gauge.

    The carburetor is GM #3849804 for a 327/365 hp 1964-'65 Corvette (#2818)

Am I on the right track? Any other tips would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

    Russ,
This is from my 65 service manual, it's in better condition than my 64 manual.IMG_0956.jpg

Thanks Peter, this is what I was looking for. I have a 1964 manual in the garage somewhere.
I ordered a new float from Summit. They are lightning fast when it comes to shipping!

In closing, I finally found that a discussion on the Holley #2818 carburetor is found in the 1964
          Service Manual Supplement only.

It essentially says just to invert the float bowl and adjust the float until it is parallel with the top
          of the bowl before re-assembly.

Volume one of the 1964 Service Manual covers the WCFB carburetors only.
