What would be the best way to go for judging points? Corvette central #172044 or delco group 24 with Paragon #8507 simulated battery cover? Thanks in advance.

Re: 1963 Battery for judging
Batteries are judged via Standard Deduction Guideline.
Before you do anything, do a cost benefit analysis of points gained/lost vs cost.

Re: 1963 Battery for judging
I went with the Delco Group 24 maintenance free battey or judging. The cost of a repro battery wasn't worth the cost vs. point deduction. I took the standard deduction at the 2014 NCRS Nat'l. Convention and moved on. I drive my '64 and wanted a battery that I can rely on.

Re: 1963 Battery for judging
Tried calling Jim's every hour for two days and was busy every time. They do not have a website. Had all kinds of problems with the former company. Question is 1. go with the battery Corvette Central sells or 2. new delco battery and topper from Paragon. Which will loose the fewest points.- Top

Sample judging sheets are available at the "SERVICES" then "Judging Awards" drop down menu towards top of this page.
There are 25 Originality and 15 Condition points for "Battery and Caps" on your 1963 (Mechanical Sheet).
Batteries are judged via Standard Deduction Guideline #2 as posted above.
You can calculate your own "poison" with those Guidelines and sample Judging Sheet.
For example:
- Deduct 50% — Delco, correctly-sized service replacement with appropriate top- or side-post configuration
Originality is 25 points. So 50% of 25 points would yield a 12 or 13 point Originality deduction for a new Delco, correctly-sized service ....
Battery, if new condition, would get no Condition point deduction.
12 or 13 points vs cost of new Delco ($120?) gives you a data point.
"EverStart" from Walmart (also around $120) would garner a 100% deduction for Originality and Condition or 40 point deduction.
A different "EverStart" (around $50) would also garner 40 points off. More data points.
A few years back NEW (never used/never filled) old DELCO batteries were discovered in a warehouse in England. These old, but new, sold for around $2000 then, perhaps $2500-3000 today. So, vs a 50% deduct (13 points off) proper DELCO, you could gain back those 13 points by spending $2500.
Those $20 "Tar Top" covers are unlikely to fool a judge.
Standard Deduction Guidelines offer percent reductions in different scenarios.
4500 total points in NCRS Flight Judging. Your money - your choice.
