    67 steering shaft index mark

In process of putting my 67 back together. Car had been abused, so much is in need of help in putting back correctly. The end of the steering shaft, the steering wheel hub end, has the index mark missing. This line on end of shaft must have been damaged by hub puller. How do you determine this line so you can align with the index line on the wheel hub?

    Louie,

On the 1967 Saginaw Standard Column Drawing it appears that the index mark aligns with the top of the flat on the lower splined end of the shaft.

    See.... 0051.pdf in this link.

All column prints 1965 to 1980 are on this page....

Edit... 0050.pdf is the image of the lower shaft section.

Any idea on how to make this image larger? My old eyes can't read it and it is information that I could use as I have the same issue with my 67 L79.

      TIA

Joe, Unfortunately these are the file sizes as I received them from whoever scanned the original prints at the AACA Museum. It's too bad they didn't use a better resolution.

Download the the pdf locally on a computer and try to zoom in on the area. I've noticed a cell phone reader doesn't work well.

I often use the "Take a Snapshot" function after a zoom-in in Adobe and paste it into my MS Paint program with notes. I've done that here for the hub and lower shaft section which may help.

Note the Index Mark faces upward, which is at the same plane as the lower shaft Index Flat, also facing upward in the drawings.

The photo is rotated, the witness mark should be, and is if I could rotate the photo, at the 12 o'clock position.

                Sorry for any confusion.

Donald, in replacing your turn signal switch, did you use any Dielectric grease or other lubricant on the moving switch parts?
