I also recall sitting in the saloon in Westworld in Scottsdale at a Southwest Regional Meet evening dinner with Dennis Clark and John Amgwert discussing the Judging Recognition program and agreeing on a design for a jacket and hat to be awarded to 200 club members...(at that time we never thought anyone could reach 300 or more)...and look where we are today...we've come a long way baby!

It took me a day, but the first Survivor Award was presented in 1990. Without contacting the Bloomington Gold office, I can't tell you who got that award, and if I asked there might be some privacy concerns in giving me that information. That two year gap confirms my recollection, but at my age I needed confirmation before I posted. In 1990 through 1992, to the best of my recollection, I was Senior Judge at BG and Team Leader for NCRS, so I was in the thick of all that exchange of programs. I participated in the implementation of both programs.

I don't wish to become involved in a discussion of better or worse. I have done enough of that over adult beverages to fill more than my lifetime quota of bar talk. Suffice it to say the programs chose different routes to get to pretty much the same place.

Yes, Dennis Clark implemented the Judging Recognition Program, and we indeed have come a long way. Keith's article, which you masterfully handled, gives us some perspective on where we have come from. I do miss a story about the angst of the 1953-55 owners when the 1956-62 cars were embraced by the club. Keith mentioned it, but The Drivelines of the time are filled with drama about that issue. I think I know several people who could shed light on that corner of NCRS history, if they were prodded. They know who I am referring to, so consider this a public hint.

A little off topic but...I would like to echo what Mark Higgins said in post #37 about a "real magazine". Hopefully we will not see any change anytime soon in this "digital age" of receiving a printed hard copy of the Corvette Restorer and Driveline. I am all for advances in technology and being eco-friendly, but I still enjoy quality printed materials, and we have always enjoyed great publications as part of our membership. Kudos to Vinnie, all the manual teams, and others who contribute to these printed materials.

I totally agree with all that you have said Leo. Early in my vintage car loving days I had Mustangs and Shelbys, and joined the SAAC and MCA organizations. They had chapter and regional and national events like NCRS, but they had no TIM&JGs, JRMs, judges training, and even the judging sheets could not be had before a meet. It was primitive and not member friendly when it came to judging and marque preservation and appreciation. When I joined NCRS, a whole new world was opened. NCRS is so far above any other Corvette themed organization it is not even close. For the other Corvette organizations some claim compete with us, see how many chapter and regional events they have to go with a once a year car show. Check on the judges training and recognition programs, like retreats, etc. See if they have the extensive detailed library, constantly updated, of judging manuals and updates, as well as quality periodicals sent to members. Check Bloomington and see how they compare in all these things I mentioned that we take for granted. Indeed we owe a huge debt to the founding members and those who followed to keep improving and making this the premier Corvette organization that it is.

After finally reading this wonderful article last night, I thought it might be of interest to post these photos of the 1983 Master Corvette Judging Manual First Edition, First Printing, Copy #11.

Thank you Keith, and all of those past and present who work so unselfishly to make all of this happen for us to enjoy!
