The tub was an assembly of a steel strap, GM #3914217, and a fiberglass tray, GM #3914225, which were riveted together. The assembly was never available in SERVICE but the individual components were once available.

The strap was painted semi-gloss black prior to installation on the tray. The tray was natural, unpainted medium gray fiberglass. Glass fibers are visible. I do not recall that any identifying number was present on original trays. However, sometimes a label is seen which is "embedded" in the fiberglass which identifies the manufacturer.

Later SERVICE examples of the tray are a lighter gray plastic and no glass fibers can be seen.

The spare tire cover, GM #3914226, which is bolted to the rear frame, is black polyethylene or polypropylene plastic.

Thanks Joe, I do have a JG Manual but right now I am 1000 miles away from it and was looking for a tub. A couple I am looking at have the number 48173 embossed into it and the other one is a not replacement fromGM with that number plus part number 3914225 embossed in the fibreglass. Both are black with no distinct grey fibreglass fibres.
