    Could it be the switch?

The windshield washer on my '66 Coupe does not operate. Pushing the center button on the wiper knob does not turn on the wipers, no liquid comes out of the squirters and no sound / no clicking is heard from the washer motor. Any ideas to fix this would be appreciated.

Did you try turning the wipers on and then pressing the button by chance

On a 66 Corvette that operates properly pushing the button activates the washer and turns the wipers on low speed. Do the wipers work at all on low or high speed?

To answer Bob's question, yes, I also tried turning the wipers on and then pressing the washer button but still no spray.

To answer JR's question, yes, the wipers work at both low speed and high speed.

Thanks to you both for your input. Any other ideas?

Turn the Wipers on low speed. Have someone push the button and listen for the motor to click. If it clicks and cycles for a few seconds you have eliminated the switch. If it cycles then try priming the pump. If that doesn't work get the pump rebuilt.

I had issues with my car's wipers squirtuing. I believe I read it here but I took a mouthful of water, pulled the hose off and primed it by mouth until I saw water squiriting out. Kind of a corny method but the priming worked and proved that the pumper was actually dry and worked when water was available. I had all of the expected noises but no water was initially present.

                  Jeff,

If you want the opinion of an expert, give Steve Hackel a call. He has rebuilt many, many hundreds of windshield wiper motors and pumps. He will almost certainly know what’s wrong. Steve’s contact info is:

Thanks to everyone who has provided advice here. I will certainly give Mr. Hackel a call and will hope he can lend some help with these windshield washers.
