    Grill Tab

The upper mounting tab on my grill is broken off and I brought to a machine shop to fabricate and weld a new tab. The machinist was concerned about the metal that the grill is made of. Does anyone have any experience with repairing the tabs on the grill itself.

The grill is cast metal, I would not attempt to weld it. Can you post a photo of the broken tab? May be able to pin it and reenforce with epoxy.

Thanks Tom. The machinist suggested doing that as he didn't think welding was an option. I had told him I would check with the NCRS TD site first to see what insights I could get.

Not every welder knows what pot metal is or how to weld it. We review the proper way to weld pot metal in a safe effective manner with multiple welding machines.
          thx,

              Re: Grill Tab

There is a product called Pot Metal Solder by the Muggy Weld Company that works at a temperature that does not damage pot metal. I used it to fill some corrosion holes in a pot metal console, and I’ll bet it would work very well to reattach a broken grill tab.

The Muggy Weld also claims it can be used to attach other metal pieces to pot metal, so even if you need to make a new tab from steel or aluminum, it can be attached to the pot metal grill with the pot metal solder.

Some info here regarding possible "fixes" for the broken tab.
