I have a 67 steering wheel that needs to be recoated . I have a can of minwax helmsman spar urethane that I am thinking of using but I don't want to use the wrong thing and make things worse . Anyone have experience with this that can provide some guidance .Thanks in advance Jeff

Re: steering wheel coating on a c2
Jeffrey,
The factory steering wheel for the '67 Corvette is faux walnut (plastic). Don't think you're going to want to urethane that. If there are no cracks in the plastic, I would try some light polishing compound. I've done that before and my wheel looks like new.Leif

Re: steering wheel coating on a c2
I did the same thing last year. I used a minwax satin and it came out great. The only issue I had was it turned sticky. Using the 3m general purpose adhesive remover and rubbing on it did the trick. Looks great and not tacky at all. Good luck with yor project.Frank

Yes I did and so far so good . I'd like to know how long it took before the one Frank did got sticky . I sprayed mine at noon and it's now dry and looks much better / a few more coats should do the trick . Jeff- Top
