Gary,
Removed the screw and this is what I see...an oblong hole (tilted inboard from red arrow plumb) that allows lower channel adjustment Up, Down, Out and In. Hole shape (at least mine) allows more adjustment up and down vs out and in. No discussion at all in Service Manual that I see talking about up/down for that point of the channel.
And the edges of the hole do not look like they have been worn away into the shape I see.
I do see an indentation in the paint (~10 o'clock to 3 o'clock) possibly evidencing a larger washer sometime in the past?
Wonder what's up with that, eh?
PS - agree that lower screw was not painted TFP

The AIM calls for washers at both the upper and lower rear sash locations. Both top and bottom bolts/screws are black phosphate and unpainted. See pics below.

Ahhhhhh, Leif!
Thanks so much!
So, the witness marks I'm seeing were NOT my imagination
What bothers me now is - "Who was in there before me and took that washer off?"
I gotta check my passenger side, too...
thanks, man...more mystery to the story, eh?thx,

The AIM calls for a separate, loose, washer for those two door jamb screws. And it calls for a different washer for coupes vs convertibles, with the convertible washer (GM 120386) having a 0.75” OD, and the coupe washer (GM 120392) having a 0.625” OD. But I believe this is a case where what is shown in the ‘66 AIM does not reflect what was done on the production line. But I can only speak for ‘66, since that’s what I’vecstudied. The ‘66 JG says “The upper and lower rear window track ends are secured with black phosphate machine head Phillips screws, with single flat washers that are the same diameter as the screw heads … Deduct for the use of oversized or multiple washers.”
All the original screws I’ve seen at that location have a flat washer that is right around 0.50” OD, matching the size of the screw head. What I found on my ‘66, which I believe to be original to the car, exactly matches the JG description. One washer (captured, but you can’t tell that by looking at it when installed), the same OD as the screw head.
I believe you will find cars with a second, larger, flat washer, which I think is there for one of two reasons: 1) it’s there because the hole in the door jamb has become enlarged from wear and the larger washer was added to keep the screw head from falling thru the jamb; or 2) the second washer was added by an owner or restorer because the AIM calls for that larger washer, i.e., it was restored based on what the AIM says, but not based on what GM did it.
