    Spare Tire Lid Date

    Need a little guidance.
Was looking at an earlier post about painting the spare tire lid.
Within the post it shows a lid with a date. Since I never noticed the date before I decided to check the date on my 1967 Corvette lid.
    My lid is dated 9 11 6, Sept 11, 1966.
All other dates on my car are before 9/8/66 except this one.
NCRS Production Date on my car is 9/8/66. Is this possible?

    Ralph,
What's the date stamp on your trim tag? BTW, the spare tire lid is NOT painted...it's natural fiberglass.

Molded Fiber Glass (MFG) made the tire housings (tubs) and carriers (lids) - and I believe they were located in Ashtabula, OH at the time.

So, there would need to be be some transportation time necessary to get those parts from OH to St. Louis (~600 miles per Google).
So I'd think the tub and lid dates (if they were both ink-dated) would have to be at least 1 day, probably more like 2 or 3 days before the car rolled off the line at St. Louis...

Is it a good clean stamp job? or maybe was it smeared making the numbers hard to read?
      thx,
      Mark

        Mark,
Trim Tag is A24. The lid is dated 9 11 6. This is the date imbedded in the fiberglass. Have not checked the tub out yet. Will need to lower the spare to check.
Car is AOS. Isn't the Production Date the date the car was finished?
Per John Hinckley back in 2011 all the other dates on my car align as expected.

If you're talking the NCRS shipping report date, yes, I believe so (see below, too) Per John Hinckley back in 2011 all the other dates on my car align as expected.
Hmmm, didn't know tub or lid dates were embossed into the FG itself.
I thought they were all ink-stamped with white ink (or paint?)
Can you post a picture of yours?

August 24, 1966 (A24) body build date in Ionia MI and other dates on your car of < Sept 8 seem to fit the transportation time for the AOS (Dow-Smith) body from MI to St Louis...

I believe the NCRS shipping report is the date it was released as a "finished Corvette" ready for shipping to the dealer...probably the same day it rolled off the line...
          thx,
          Mark

Do not think the embedded #'s are date codes, here is a 67 cover. Have a few of 64's they all have a a five digit code starting with "1", make sure you have a "1"

              Alan,

You are correct. That is not a date code. I'm pretty sure that's MFG's part (or mold?) number.

an MFG date stamp would look something like this...

                Thanks,
I went back to take a picture and checked what I thought was a date embedded in the fiberglass lid and thanks to Alan's picture I noticed it is not a date.
The number is 1 9 11 6. I missed the first digit. Don't I feel like an idiot.
This actually makes me feel better since John really spent some time with me verifying dates on my car. He was always so helpful.
