    65 soft top

Was the soft top put on the soft top frame at the assembly plant or was the whole assembly done when came in from the supplier? at a chapter meet today it was pointed out that the lace caps where not correct. looking at the original top the repro caps match. This car being a A O Smith body would they have used different hard wear?

      Keith,

The hardware should be the same, regardless of whether the car body was built in St. Louis or at AO Smith. The cap in the picture should be correct. They look like the one's on my car. Somewhere I have pictures of an original soft top that show all the correct hardware. There used to be two different types of caps, one had a flanged edges that looked like a spear.

When was the cap with a flange first used?

          Keith,

          Keith,

Here is information out of the 1963/1964 TIMJG and the 1965 TIMJG. The 63/64 manual references either the non-flanged caps or flanged caps. The '65 manual also says that the soft top wire-on tips may have either the non-flanged or flanged edge.
