If you look at how they are crimped together you can probably see that disassembling them would be difficult, even is spare internal parts were available, so just replace it with a modern replacement that costs about bucks. The VAC is only worth 3 judging points, two for originality and one for condition.

What year and engine, and does the engine have an OE or OE equivalent camshaft?

What's the data stamped on the bracket?

I believe Don Baker in Chicago was making exact reproductions about 5+ years ago. I would contact him. He was primarily doing these for the FI boys.

Archives should have contact info........or do a Google search.

That's an OE 8" VAC that was also used on 365/375 HP engines. The replacement is B28, but they have not been manufactured by Standard Motor Products for years. The only brand that might have stock is Airtex 4V1053, but there are reports that the contained part is not stamped B28 and does not meet the ...236/B28 nominal spec of start @ 4" Hg, 16 crank degrees @ 8".

From a practical standpoint an 8" VAC is more aggressive than necessary since with an OE equivalent camshaft typical L-79 idle behavior is 750 @ 14", so a 12" B26 meets the Two-Inch Rule. The NAPA part number is VC-1765 and any parts store should be able to cross this to whatever brand they sell.

These SMP-manufactured VACs were available in more than a half dozen "brands" including "Delco", but they're all the same part, just a different box and brand part number.

Hello Bob, If you are looking for an original MS 236 16 vacuum advance unit, there currently are several new ones listed on EBAY. Check for listings under original part # 1116236. John
