    1965 Frame VIN Mis-stamp

I found and recorded my unrestored '65 frame VIN stamp 5S122095. I found something interesting in that the factory mis-stamped the frame number. The first stamp was 5S122094 but they re-stamped the last number making it a 5. No grind out, just stamped slightly below the last number.

the frame stamping tool causes a slight denting of the underside of the frame, so a repo frame that has been stamped in amateur fashion will usually lack the dent . mike

The car has been in the family since 1974 and has never been apart until I began the rear suspension rebuild last winter. This is not a repro frame.

jim: didnt mean to imply the frame a repo. simply noted the presence of denting so chassis judges would be aware. mike

                Mike,

I didn't think you were, just stating it's history. You also taught me something, I was unaware of the indentation at the frame VIN stamp at the door location vs. no indentation at the rear of the frame.

                Thanks,

                James

BOTH locations have frame indentations from that stamping machine.

It happened a lot more times than you think production line workers at $ 5 an hour mistakes happened quite often

$5.00 an hour! You must be kidding! Ask M. Hanson! He was there on the line and took those pictures!
