69 Ball Joint Questions - Again

I posted the questions below (and others) over a month ago. The only reply didn't address the questions. I've done more search on this forum, but haven't found definitive answers (that I can understand)...so here I go again.

This information comes from the Specifications section in the Chassis Service Manual.

Spherical Joint - Stud to Control Arm Nuts (Service) - 20 ft lb. Is this for the bolts/nuts that replace the rivets holding the ball joints to the control arms? Sure seems low.

Next under Bolt Torques - Lower Forging Nut - 40 ft lb. What is this? Can't find it in the AIM.

    Thanks,
    Mike

As I may have mentioned previously, the bolts used in SERVICE to secure the ball joints, upper and lower, to the control arms are 5/16-24. I can't recall if they are GM 280M or 300-M but 20 lb/ft is the appropriate torque for such bolts whether used to fasten the ball joints or any other use.

The "lower forging nut" is the nut at the center on the UPPER side of the lower ball joint (below the grease fitting). That nut is torqued to 40 lb/ft. PRODUCTION specification was 35-45 lb/ft. Most SERVICE torque specs are set in the middle of the PRODUCTION range.
