AMA specs (supplied by GM) indicate that a small-block radio weighs three pounds more than a big-block radio. (14 vs. 11) I thought it was an error--that perplexed me. Then it came to me that the "radio" includes the shielding, which weighs three pounds more than the braids on the wires do.
What is also interesting in those specs is that a 71 LS5 weighs 220 pounds more than the base motor, with a front to rear bias of +199 and +23 (according to GM--the math isn't exactly correct). The 71 LS6, on the other hand, weighs only 82 pounds more than the base motor, with a +62 and +20 front/rear bias. So, the aluminum heads and intake save 138 pounds, essentially all with the front end bias.
