Re: Help identifying leak culprit
Michael,
FYI - all smart cell phones have "photo rotation" feature. If you want a photo to be displayed as it was taken - turn off the "Auto Rotation" feature before you take the photo and the photo will appear as taken when email, text'd or uploaded to the NCRS TDB.

Re: Help identifying leak culprit
Michael,Hi folks,
just wondering if someone can quickly identify what is leaking here? I actually don’t think it was this bad until I started driving it more than a few miles at a time. It seems to be leaking at the end of the pipe. I’m sorry but when uploading on the phone it seems to have uploaded upside down!

To answer your specific question (and, not being a smart azz), what is leaking is your rubber fuel line where it attaches to the lower inlet on your fuel pump. You say you don't drive the car that often. I would check the tightness of the spring fitting at the pump/rubber line and, also, the rigidity of the rubber line itself. You may have to change out the rubber line and affix two new fittings to stop the leak but don't leave it unrepaired...don't want a fire.Leif

Re: Help identifying leak culprit
Thanks Leif, this might also be why there is a smell of gas in the garage! I will take your advice and figure out how to replace that rubber.Check out the NCRS Points Tabulator/Calculator Helper

Re: Help identifying leak culprit
Michael - It does look like it's leaking where the hose connects to your fuel pump. Yours at least has a clamp. When I got my NOM 65 L78 home, I found the hose from frame pipe to fuel pump had NO clamps at either end and...the damned thing wasn't leaking. Go figure.IMG_3188.jpgMike T. - Prescott AZ.- Top

Mick------
Replace the rubber fuel hose and also replace the rubber hose from the fuel tank sender to the frame line. Use modern fuel hose which is known-resistant to ethanol blended gasoline. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Help identifying leak culprit
Hopefully Joe knows. I am going through the AIM right now looking for the part number, but because the LT-1 has a single fuel line with no return, I’m not sure it actually shows it. Maybe it’s the same P/N

Re: Help identifying leak culprit
Mick------
I don't think 1971with LT-1 used a molded hose. But, if it did, I do not know of any source for such a hose. In addition, it's very easy to use a section of non-molded, heavy wall fuel hose. Route it properly with no sharp bends and it will not kink.
1971 with LT-1 has essentially the same fuel pump and hose configuration as 1968-69 small block. I can tell you for certain that I replaced the fuel hose several times on my original 1969 small block using non-molded hose and never had any problem. By the way, while 1968-69 small block originally used the AC 40658 fuel pump, that was replaced for SERVICE in the early 70's with the AC 40709, the exact same pump as used for 1971 LT-1. I used the 40709 on my small block from the very first replacement. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Help identifying leak culprit
Justin
Just as an FYI: My early build 1970 LT1 came with a straight hose. When it wouldn't rev over 5000 (that would have been a PV fail) I tracked the problem to a kinked fuel hose. I was able to get the S-shaped molded hose from the parts department. That cured the fuel delivery problem.Terry- Top

I hope that the material the good Doc hasLeif,
I hope the material the good Doc uses is resistant to alcohol. I am not able to ask him, but I hope someone can.Terry- Top
